Chris Woodard, lead instructor and guide at Sivlik ADV Training & Tours, recently completed his sixth Backcountry Discovery Route (BDR) ride, this time tackling the brand-new Montana BDR as an official ambassador for the national nonprofit.
Backcountry Discovery Routes maps free, multi-day off-road motorcycling tracks across the country. The Montana BDR, introduced earlier this year, runs roughly 900 miles from Island Park, Idaho, to the Canadian border and completes the final link in a continuous off-road network spanning the western United States. Since its debut, the route has drawn hundreds of riders through small Montana communities, including stops in Jefferson County, as reported by The Monitor (Jefferson County, MT) on July 28, 2026.
Woodard has spent his career around motorcycles, both as an off-road riding instructor and previously as a state trooper in Arizona. He views routes like the Montana BDR as a way for riders to support small-town economies and connect with the communities they pass through, a philosophy that carries directly into the guided off-road experiences he leads at Sivlik ADV.
“Montana is definitely the one that I enjoyed the most,” Woodard said of the new route, noting it’s the newest and currently busiest addition to the BDR network.
