One of the most common questions we get is, “What level rider am I?” And honestly, that question is a great place to start. At Sivlik ADV, we don’t use levels to rank or label riders; instead, we use them as a guide to help match you with the kind of training or tour that’s going to build your confidence and keep you safe.
We’ve seen firsthand how different everyone’s riding journey can be. Some are just transitioning from the street to dirt. Others grew up around bikes but never learned proper off-road techniques. Wherever you’re starting, we’re here to meet you there.
Why Levels Help, But Don’t Define You
We don’t run a gatekeeping operation. We don’t say “advanced riders only” or “you must have X experience.” That’s not what we’re about. We welcome riders of all experience levels, especially those who are still finding their footing off-road.
When we talk about training levels, it’s just a way to make sure you’re set up for success. Here’s how we break it down.
Our Off-Road Training Levels
At Sivlik ADV, we focus on real-world skills—on the kind of terrain you’re actually going to ride. We don’t do stunt drills or race training. Just practical, confidence-building instruction that meets you where you are. Here’s a rundown of how we define various levels and how we’ll cater your ride to match your level:
- Level One: Starting Fresh
- You’re new to off-road riding, or just getting comfortable transitioning from pavement to dirt.
- Standing on the pegs may feel awkward. Loose terrain still throws you off balance.
- We work on throttle and brake control, balance, and body position at low speeds.
- Most of this happens in a controlled area or along smooth dirt roads.
- The focus here is getting you comfortable, not pushing your limits.
- Level Two: Gaining Traction
- You’ve had some time off-road. Maybe you’ve been through a basic course or done a few light trails.
- You’re able to stand and shift your weight, but still learning how to read terrain or recover smoothly when things get tricky.
- This level includes mild hill climbs, washes, and varied terrain with a mix of challenge and flow.
- We keep coaching and adapting to how you’re progressing during the ride.
- Level Three: Personal Exploration
- You’ve logged a lot of miles off-road—BDRs, mountain passes, even some single track.
- These rides demand strong fitness, technical skill, and terrain awareness.
- We don’t offer Level Three training at Sivlik, but it’s part of how we ride personally when we’re exploring with fellow instructors and seasoned friends.
What to Expect with Us
We specialize in Level One and Two experiences—because that’s where the biggest growth happens. You don’t need to prove anything. You just need a safe space to learn, ride, and gain real confidence.
What you’ll find at Sivlik ADV:
- A culture of encouragement and patience.
- Routes tailored to rider experience and goals.
- Skills you’ll actually use out in the wild.
What you won’t find:
- Stunt drills or competition-style challenges.
- Pressure to move up before you’re ready.
- Rigid expectations about gear or bike size. We help you work with what you’ve got.
It’s About Progress, Not Pressure
Some riders go from Level One to Level Two in a few sessions. Others take longer, and that’s completely okay. What matters is how you feel on your bike—how you handle it, how you move with it, and how much fun you’re having.
We believe confidence isn’t something you either have or don’t. It’s something that gets built, ride by ride, with the right support. When you’re ready, join us for training that challenges you in the best way.
Come ride an adventure with us.
